Bruk Ballenger, Physical Therapist from Prevail PT, and Dr. Geoff Lecovin of Northwest Integrative Medicine were two provider guests on our Panel Discussion at the GritLink Beta Launch party. Bruk and Dr. Geoff give tips to the audience of endurance athletes for getting the most out of working with your sports care providers.
Bruk’s tips include:
- Make sure that you are seeing a provider who is well-experienced working with your issues.
- Give as much information as possible to your provider – your training history, your training load, your goals, you abilities, your medical history.
- Give feedback about how your body responds to the treatment you are getting. “I love the OCD people who give me a training logs with pain diaries. It’s awesome,” says Bruk.
Dr. Geoff shares his treatment philosophy: “It’s a partnership. We’ll figure out together what is going on, and decide on objective measurements – it could be movements or nutrition, or something else.” The partnership begins when Dr. Geoff devises a treatment plan and you (the athlete) do the homework, which may be corrective exercises, keeping a food journal, following a specific diet, or something else. Together, you will measure your response to the treatment and adjust as needed in order to get the results you are looking for.
